Janu Vasti – Ayurvedic Knee Rejuvenation Therapy

In today's fast-paced world, our knees bear the brunt of long hours of sitting, standing, and physical activity, where mobility is vital and joint health is key

Whether you're a working professional, athlete, or simply leading a busy lifestyle, maintaining knee health is essential.

Ancient wellness traditions offer holistic ways to support the body. One such therapy from Ayurveda is called Janu Vasti-  designed specifically to support and nourish the knee joints. While deeply rooted in Ayurvedic tradition, it’s increasingly being explored by wellness seekers across the globe as a complementary practice to support joint comfort and flexibility.

 What is Janu Vasti?

Derived from Sanskrit, "Janu" means knee, and "Vasti" refers to retention.

Janu Vasti is a localized Ayurvedic therapy in which warm, medicated oil is retained over the knee joint within a circular, dough-based structure. This allows the therapeutic properties of the oil to penetrate the tissues surrounding the joint deeply.

The treatment is both soothing and grounding, often described as a deeply meditative experience for the knees involving gentle warmth, natural herbs, and mindful stillness.

How is Janu Vasti Performed?

  1. A ring made from black gram flour dough is carefully placed around the knee to form a leak-proof chamber.

  2. Warm, herbalized Ayurvedic oil is gently poured into this chamber.

  3. The oil is maintained at a consistent temperature and retained for 20–30 minutes. This allows the therapeutic properties of the oil to penetrate the tissues surrounding the joint deeply

  4. Afterward, the oil is gently removed & massaged around the knee area.

  5. A light herbal steam or compress may follow, depending on individual needs.
